We collect what we need to run SkillMela, use it only for that, and never sell it. Here's the detail.
Who is responsible
SkillMela is run by SUNITA DEVI, Trading as SkillMela, Chhani Bari, Bhadra, Hanumangarh, Rajasthan, 335511. We decide how your data is used (under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act we are the "data fiduciary"). Questions go to skillmelaofficial@gmail.com, attention Sahil.
What we collect
- Your account: email, the name you give, and (if you choose) a public profile with a headline, city and links.
- Learning: courses you buy, lessons you finish, questions, reviews, projects and community posts.
- Payments: what you paid, when, and Razorpay's payment reference. Card and UPI details go to Razorpay, never to us.
- Teachers: application details, profile, courses, and the bank or UPI details and PAN you give for payouts.
- Businesses: company details, briefs, and messages with the people you hire.
- Complaints and requests: what you tell our grievance officer, and the consent wording you agreed to.
- Waitlist: email, and optionally your name and WhatsApp number, the skill you're interested in and how you heard about us.
The course check doesn't send your answers to us. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies; the only cookies keep you signed in and remember which teacher's link you came from.
Why we use it
- To run your account, deliver courses, take payments, give refunds and pay teachers.
- To keep the marketplace honest: verify teachers, work out trust scores from real activity, and stop abuse.
- To protect courses: protected videos show a watermark with your name and part of your email, so a leaked copy can be traced.
- To email you about your purchases, replies and announcements in courses you're in.
- To meet legal duties, such as keeping tax records and answering lawful requests.
Who helps us
These companies process data only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase (database, sign-in and file storage)
- Vercel (hosting)
- Razorpay (payments)
- VdoCipher (protected video)
- Resend (email)
Some of them store data outside India. Teachers see the first name of learners in their courses, and what those learners post. Businesses see the profiles people choose to make public.
How long we keep it
- Your account data: until you delete your account.
- Purchase, refund and payout records: 8 years, because tax law requires it. After you leave, they no longer carry your name or email.
- Waitlist sign-ups: 12 months after launch, unless you become a member.
Your rights
- See and download your data: Account → Download my data.
- Correct it on your account and profile pages, or ask us.
- Delete your account: Account → Delete my account. We finish within 30 days.
- Withdraw consent to marketing emails at any time, and nominate someone to act for you if you can't.
- Complain to our grievance officer. We acknowledge within 48 hours. If you're not satisfied, you can go to the Data Protection Board of India.
Children
SkillMela is for people aged 18 or over. If you think a child has signed up, tell us and we'll delete the account.
Changes
If we change this notice in a way that affects you, we'll email you before it applies.
